Factors To Consider Before Enrolling In An Ontario Teacher Training Program

For most people, being a teacher is a way to make a living but for others, it is simply a calling. It takes more to be teacher than it does to be in any other profession and that is why teachers are well appreciated in the society because they are the ones who ensure that our children are equipped with the necessary skills to grow into well rounded individuals. You however can’t just decide to become a teacher. You need to go through a teacher training program. Here as some factors that you should consider before joining an Ontario teacher training program.

1. Are you committed?

Being a teacher is going to require consistency and commitment. You need to be sure that you are going to be able to handle all the challenges that come with being a teacher. Since this is training though, you need to know that the amount of discipline that you have is going to take you through the program. It is very difficult to do something that you are not passionate about so the first thing that you should consider is your level of commitment.

2. Your motivation

What is your reason for enrolling? Is there anything in your life that is giving you clues that this is the path that you were meant to take in life? Sometimes the lesson only becomes clearer when we are ready to learn and other times, we become ready to learn when the lesson is clear. Which one is it for you? With time, you will start to get clues from your own life.

3. Do you have the resources?

In Ontario, like in many other places, it is going to cost you to enroll in a teacher training program. The factor to consider here is if you have enough resources to do that. Resources here are not only money but time. Ensure that you have enough money so that you do not start practicing in debt.

4. Is it reputable?

You need to know that the teacher training program that you enroll in is reputable. Just because it is certified does not actually mean that it is thorough. Do your research. Ask a lot of questions. Get to know how long the program has been around. These are the questions that will help you understand how proper the training offered is.

5. What factors are addressed?

There are certain things that are never addressed in a teacher training program. How to handle burnout is one of them. Being a teacher is not just about getting students to understand concepts. It goes well into your personal life and you need to be taught how to handle that.
